Introducing Mary....

Hey guys!  My name is Mary and I have also joined the Franklin & Whitman family as a content writer for the blog and I am so excited to start this journey! I am a third year student at Temple University studying Graphic Design, which is something I have become very passionate about over the past couple years. You usually will find me in the design studio, at the gym, or pretty much anywhere I can pet a dog. Almost everything I do is shared with my best friend, Sienna… we are basically a package deal! So when I say I really love animals, she can confirm that I REALLY love animals. When I found out that ALL Franklin & Whitman products are plant-based and cruelty free, how could I go wrong? They really put a lot of thought behind their products and what goes in them, which makes me appreciate this company that much more.

What’s my WHY? Why do I love Franklin & Whitman so much?

When I first learned about Franklin & Whitman’s home base being in Philadelphia I was stoked, I absolutely love the city and all of the opportunities that it has to offer. It was fun making the connections of the product names to neighborhoods that I walk through everyday! When Sienna and I first received the products, we literally could not wait to try them out! My personal favorite is the Point Breeze Body Scrub, it smells AMAZING and makes my skin super soft!

So obviously I love their stuff, it smells so good, is great for your skin, and it’s vegan, which is a huge bonus. As I mentioned before, I love animals, and so does Franklin & Whitman! That 5% of all their sales gets donated to Dog Rescue organizations is my absolute favorite aspect of this company. I’m so excited to be working with such an amazing and compassionate company.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this blog! I’ll talk to you all very soon!

Introducing Sienna....

Hey hey there!

My name is Sienna and I’m sliding into the Franklin & Whitman blog as a new content writer! Talk about a great gig.. sheesh. A little about me, I am currently a student at Temple University studying Graphic Design. I LOVE TO CREATE, in all things. A typical day in the life of Sienna consists of classes, exercise, full plates of food, and my best friend Mary by my side (you’ll hear from her soon). As I move into contributing to the Franklin & Whitman blog, what intrigues me the most about this company is their WHY. Franklin & Whitman has such an important WHY, they take 5% of every sale and donate it to Dog Rescue organizations. How amazing is that? Their passion to give back to the community makes me so incredibly proud to be working for them.

What’s my WHY? Why do I love Franklin & Whitman so much?

Honestly, when I first discovered this brand, I was so happy to find a Philadelphia-based company to buy from. Being a Philadelphia resident, I am always looking to find local businesses to give back to in order to feel more connected to my community. Receiving my package in the mail was just about the best day of my life (not joking) because I got the best little thank you card for ordering, everything about my box was considered! It’s the little details that truly matter, and you can tell Franklin & Whitman really values their consideration of detail.

NOW NOW NOW, let’s get down to it. I love their product. I’m not kidding when I say, I pulled out the Midtown Village scrub, opened it in the shower to use it and promptly turned my shower off, grabbed a towel and RAN into Mary’s room and forced her to smell the absolute BLISS that is Midtown Village. I am a coffee fanatic, and this scrub is made from turbinado sugar, fair trade coffee and vanilla....AKA LOVE IN A JAR. If you’re as into coffee as I am, you will probably have the same reaction as I did when I opened it. This is my WHY. The consideration for detail, the pure awesomeness, the simple no-nonsense ingredients, the coffee… I was so hooked, so quickly.

So, here I am! Ready to be working for an amazing company with an amazing WHY. Stay tuned for my bff Mary's intro coming soon!

Rosehip Benefits For Your Skin

Rosehips were a remedy that was used by the ancient Egyptians, Mayans and Native Americans all because of their healing properties. Harvested from the seeds of rose bushes predominately grown in Chile, rosehip seed oil is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines. Unlike heavier oils that are commonly used on the face, Rosehip Seed Oil absorbs easily. Due to its high anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities, Rosehip Oil helps to decrease environmental damage and soothes your skin. You can find Rosehip Oil in our all-natural Walnut Hill Face Serum.

This Might Happen to Your Skin When You Go All-Natural

We were thrilled when Cassandra and Angela over at The Frillish informed us that they ditched their chemical-based skincare products and only used our all-natural, plant-based, cruelty-free products for weeks!  They were awesome enough to publish a blog post documenting their findings.  You can find the blog post on their site here and below.

I used to wash my face twice a day, and sometimes 3 times if I felt oily midday - which was often. You would think frequently washing your face is a GOOD thing because you're constantly cleaning off the dirt, unclogging the pores, etc, etc. Well, it's not.

I used to think my blemishes and patches of acne were from dirt, and I just wasn't doing a good enough job scrubbing. I have come to learn, through years (and years) of pretty consistent blemishes that washing your face everyday isn't so great. Over-washing your face will actually make you develop more sebum (a fatty substance that releases into the hair follicle) and your skin goes into overload (thinking its deprived of moisture) to produce tons of excess oil, thus leaving you shiny with acne. Yay.

Aside from over-washing and environmental damage, free radicals play a very large part in your skincare regimen. Free radicals are chemical particles, in your chemically-made face scrub/body wash/moisturizer/what have you, that creates severe inflammation if the skin does not respond well. Cue: acne, pigmentation, redness, all the stuff you wanted to avoid or cure. After I switched all of my skincare products from chemical-based to all natural, paraben-free, I saw a major difference in not only my skin's texture, but overall complexion and color too!

Angela and I both tested these products from Franklin + Whitman, who were generous enough to let us both switch out our body scrubs, face scrubs, face masks, and a hair serum to see what it was like to use all-natural skincare products. A full line of products truly allowed us to review this brand honestly. We weren't confused if maybe it was this product from this company or that product from that company. Everything is from the same brand, with the same natural ingredients, and the same social mission (they love animals!) which was awesome because it was very clear what worked.

So what's going to happen to your skin:

You will more than likely break out the first day or two after switching from chemically-based products to plant-based. This is your skin adjusting to the change.

You'll surprisingly find that the plant-based products ACTUALLY work better than the chemical-based! I noticed after using the Spruce Hill Face Mask (with matcha green tea, pomegranate and activated charcoal) the very first day - the hormonal acne on my chin subsided in size and redness.

As I continued the rest of the week with the face and body scrubs, I used a sample of each everyday. My skin became brighter, smoother, and more clear than anything I have ever used previously. No joke, not kidding, pinky promise. It surprised me, too.

I didn't wash my face every day. I didn't have to - after my skin felt and looked better, some mornings and night I would just splash my face with cold water to reset and wake up. Did not break out from this while using Franklin + Whitman, but I have in the past with my chemical-based skincare products!

Every night for the two weeks I completely tested the products, I washed my face every day or every other day with an assortment of face scrubs F + W has on their website. I used their Spruce Hill Face Mask(matcha green tea, pomegranate, activated charcoal) on the first day of the first week which seemed to be more of a healing mask - and the Queen Village Face Mask (colloidal oatmeal, activated charcoal, aloe vera) the first day of the second week which seemed to be more of a calming mask. Following the mask or scrub at night, I used the Walnut Hill Face Serum (argan oil, rosehip seed, pomegranate) which acts as a beauty oil.

In addition to the skincare products, their hair serums (in combination with taking Biotin tablets daily) made my hair grow over 2 inches since I started using it!!

Moral of the story, I now have mermaid hair (that I need to trim) and a clear, calm complexion heading into the summer months!
